Welcome, baby Emma Nicole! My friend Jason and Heather welcomed their daughter yesterday. She is amazingly beautiful. Shiloh-Nouvel ain't got nothing on this girl. Pictures when I have them.

For those of you wondering, our tournament went very, very well this past weekend. We had 16 teams (not as many as we'd hoped, but still a great turnout) and somewhere around 150 or so spectators. We raised $1380 after expenses, which will go a long way to helping our two missions teams pay for our travel.
Highlights included the goth team called "Precious in His Sight", the winning team that was entirely composed of people from a "rival" church, a kickin' bake sale and facepainting for the kids, and the ministry team that, surprisingly, stayed in the competition well into the night. This although they asked to play first to "get it over with".
So it was a great night, and we're definitely looking forward to this being a growth enterprise.

I think my alma maters are out to embarrass me.
Colleen Graffey was the director of Pepperdine's London Program while I attended in the fall of 2001, and when I worked as the program assistant back in Malibu in 2002-2003.
I didn't like her then, and I don't like her now. To think that she, as a former professor of international law and a current diplomat, would basically defend keeping Gitmo open based on the "Well, it happened to us once" defense, blatantly ignoring international conventions and laws as well as the US Constitution, makes me embarassed to admit that so much of my professional training and education was associated with her.
More and more I am disgusted with the Republican party. If you had asked me three years ago, I would have told you that while I evaluated each candidate and election individually, I usually aligned with the GOP. No more. After watching our administration repeatedly violate the most basic human rights of these people, after cringing as the politicos who call themselves "Christian" tried to pass a Constitutional amendment banning one of the most basic American rights to a huge part of the population based on nothing more than a general uncomfortability with sexuality, and after seeing the basic disrespect these people have for the common man who pays their salaries, I'm done.
Consider me a Democrat-leaning independent from now on. It will be a long time before I vote for a Republican again.

It's that time again! For the second year in a row, Otter Creek Church in Brentwood will be holding a dodgeball tournament to raise money for missions.

You can also sign up individually and we will place you on a team. Players must be at least 16 years old, and will have to sign a liability waiver before they can play.
The tournament will be held in the gym at Otter Creek, with concessions and face-painting for the kids.
If you're interested in playing, shoot me an email at tiffsniff (at) hotmail (dot) com.
Hope to see you there!

My Boca Java stuff finally came! Woo hoo! In case you don't read Malia's blog (and you really should), BJ is a company that is starting up to sell coffee online. Specifically, they are targeting their marketing to us bloggers. As a part of that, a few of us lucky dogs get to drink some of their coffee for free, in return for reviewing it on our blogs.
Of course, the family I'm housesitting for doesn't have a coffee machine.
But I'll go get mine from the apartment and set up camp. I'm really excited about this. I drink a lot of coffee, but I'm definitely nota connoss a conosseu an expert. I know what I like, though, and I think I can express myself fairly well.
And if you don't drink it, I will also be reviewing several different brands of chocolate bar, at various costs and levels of importedness. It's a lot of work, but I'm willing to sacrifice for you.
